The Journey Home: A Story of Triumph

by Deborah Davis with inspiration from Pastor Oliver Garner and the Holy Spirit

 Introduction

God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name. After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself. And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun (Romans 8:2930, The Message Bible).  Jeremiah 1, tells us  that God knew us and had a purpose for our lives before we were even formend in the womb. This is a story about how God will coach us to a triumphant life if we let Him.

Chapter 1: The Sending of the Souls

The air was full of excitement as the angels moved about with a purpose. It only happened once each generation, and today was the day. Everything had to be just right. Today, God was going to send the next generation to earth. These millions of souls had patiently waited through the millennia for their turn to fulfill their purpose on earth. The souls who had already been to earth sat and reflected on their experiences and how they had fulfilled their appointed purpose. Isaiah remembered how it had been. He tried to prepare the world for the coming of the Messiah, but they did not listen. Jeremiah remembered the tears he had shed for Israel, because they were a stiff-necked people and it had led to their ruin. Hosea thought of Gomer who like Israel took up with anyone but him. Nehemiah thought of the exhilaration seeing his people come together to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and working side by side with all types of people to get the job done. His mind reflected back to the teaching of Ezra and how the people returned to God. A chill ran down the spine of Jonah as he thought of what his disobedience to God had almost cost him. Ruth and Boaz laughed as they talked of the sheer enjoyment in fulfilling their  purpose in starting the line of David. Ruth kissed Naomi as they took their place next  to Boaz’s parents, Salmon and Rahab, to await the ceremony. There was  much joy and singing. Through the air, the sound of Hallelujah, Hosanna and  glory to God in the highest wafted through the air like a sweet perfume. In fact, all types of music could be heard, Slave Spirituals, traditional hymns, Contemporary Christian, Gospel, Eastern Orthodox, Hawaiian Christian Chants, Roman Catholic, from Amazing Grace to Send the Praise Up! Music swirled throughout the air in a harmony that could only be described as heavenly. The transparent gold walls and floors gleamed and the pearl knobs and trim were a brilliant white, as all of heaven filed into the Great Hall of the Meeting.

The crowd fell silent when the golden trumpets began to play. It was about to  begin! The procession began as it has for two hundred generations. Enoch and  Elijah who walked with God and were translated, led the procession followed by  Abraham and Moses, David, Solomon, Elijah, Elisha, Deborah, Nehemiah, Job,  Joseph, and Jacob. Clothed in resplendent robes encrusted with rubies,  emeralds, sapphires and diamonds we the patriarchs and the disciples, led by Peter, James, John, and Paul. Mary and Joseph entered and took a seat near the front, next to Sarah. Gloria in excelcius deo! Sang the angels and all in heaven, as they worshipped God and praised Him for who HE is. Michael the Archangel led in the angels who would be assigned to guide this new generation of souls who would be sent to earth. Suddenly Gabriel appeared, and the room again fell silent.

It started like a fragrance, sweet, but smoky;  then grew to tongues of fire. As the Holy Spirit moved around and filled every soul, everyone began to sing, “The presence of the Lord is here, I can feel it in the atmosphere. The power of the Lord is here, I can feel it in the atmosphere! Angels were in the air, moving  to and fro, even more excited than before. “Worthy is the Lamb, Worthy is the  Lamb, Worthy is the Lamb of God! Holy is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world!” Sheer joy broke out in the great hall as Jesus was welcomed into the room. The Patriarchs bowed down in worship. The Apostles prostrated themselves in worship. Mary cried tears of joy. Jesus is here! Holy is the Lord! Jesus raised His hand and the crowd fell silent. “My Father and I are  one. To see me is to see the Father. His Spirit has filled each one here. I am  here, and so is Our Father. The room came alive with light that filled the air  and illuminated every crevice. The great hall was filled with a light that  could only be described as surreal. It had no beginning and no end, from top to  bottom, as far as the eye can see it was light.

The singing stopped. All  movement stopped. Every soul stood in sheer awe as the glory of God filled the  room. They were bathed in His glory, although they experienced the Glory every  day, each time it created awe and sheer joy. His glory brought to their minds their earthly lives, and how morning by morning new mercies they saw. They remembered God’s grace (unmerited favor) that saved them, and they fell on their knees in praise and thanksgiving. Angels and archangels glorified God. Moses stood transfixed as he looked at the glory that he was only allowed to see from the cleft of a rock when he dwelt on the earth. Words cannot describe the power and awesomeness of God as he filled the room.  After the processional entered the Great Hall, the Angel of the Lord  motioned for silence and began to speak to those assembled. The entire heavens shook when he began to speak. “You are about to begin an experience that has been shared by all assembled here except the created beings. You will go into the world just as I did, to experience us in a whole different way. While you are away from your Father’s house, these things you will encounter: The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. As you are in the world, in this you greatly rejoice though now  for a little while you may have to suffer in all kinds of trials. These will come so that your faith of greater value than any gold, refined by fire may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor in Jesus Christ. Always remember whose you are! May it stay within you, who you are. You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God  himself.”  All of heaven rejoiced at these words.

The Apostle Paul spoke next, “When I was on earth I wrote these words in my second letter to the Corinthians: “Show proper respect to everyone. Love the brotherhood of believers. Fear God! Add to your walk of faith goodness and to goodness knowledge and to knowledge self control and to self control, perseverance, and to perseverance godliness, and to godliness, brotherly kindness and to brotherly kindness—LOVE. For when you posses these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in Jesus Christ. Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy, dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have. Forgive as the Lord forgives you. Bind these in love and be altogether perfect. Consider to do well, do not become weary in doing good for the proper time, (in your season), you will reap a harvest if you do not give up.
